Shirt quilt

This is a quilt top made entirely out of shirts.  The quilt measures 58” square.  The border is rectangles cut from the shirts.  Every other square is a pocket from a shirt.  The Star blocks are fabric cut from three shirts.  The sashings, corner pieces, and narrow border are from three different shirts, the narrow border being pieced.  It took me 45 1/2 hours to make this quilt top.  I designed this quilt using EQ7.  It was quite a challenge to figure out how to make it from the design.  The Star blocks were paper pieced.

I have been very busy

I have been busy making quilts and wall hangings for craft fairs and art shows which is why I haven't done any blogging lately.  Also, my camera has decided not to communicate with my computer so I cannot post the pictures right now.  Hope to get back to this with pictures soon.

Merry Christmouse

I made this stocking door hanging and my daughter, Jenny, decided it needed to have a mouse peeking out.  She made the mouse for me.  the hanging measures about 12” X 12”. The stocking is open at the top so candy canes, or small toys may be inserted.  In this one, the mouse helped himself to the candy.

It was so fun to make, I made three more.

Artisan Festival

Was a vendor at the Artisan Festival at Wisecup's Farm Museum.    Sold a quilt, a painting, and a bunch of cards.   Any time I sell something it is a good show.   Have a two day one coming up next week in Council Bluffs for the Southwest Iowa Art Tour, then it is Applefest in Woodbine, Iowa the following week.  Busy time.

New Team Spirit Quilt designs

I have developed some new designs with the T-shirt in the middle.  Here are the first ones with each of the designs.  I am going to play around with all of these designs except for Iron Man.  That one gave presented too many challenges that I do not care to repeat.

More Team Spirit Quilts

This one is Buzz Lightyear.  The back of the shirt had “I’ve been to Infinity and Beyond.”  I am going to put that on the backing.  The second picture is Iowa Hawkeyes.  The back of this quilt is pieced together with black and white check, black, and gold fabric.  I finished a My Little Pony Quilt top last night.  I will post a picture of it as soon as I find my camera.

Cherry Picking season

Had to put the sewing and painting aside for awhile.  Cherries are ripe and they won’t wait.  So far, three pies made and a five quart bucket being pitted now.   More still waiting on the tree.  Dare I say, “Pittin’ and grinnin.”  Yes, I do.

Armed services wall hanging

I found this panel on line and ordered three of them.  I have made three of these.  Each one is a little different.  One has white corner blocks instead of blue and another has the stripes changed so the red is on top with the white in the middle.  The size is 24” by 30”.

This Robin wasn’t rockin’;

He was all fluffed out trying to keep warm yesterday at Ed Zorinsky Park in Omaha, NE.  Our Plein Aire  Paint club went there to paint.  It was c-c-c-cold.

Some little girl left her shoes.  I have started painting this.  I am going to call it Two Lost Soles in the Park.  Mostly shoes, less bench.

New fabric painting

I started this last night so it is in the rough stages.  I did a watercolor of this windmill at on of Pleine Air painting sessions last summer.  I thought it would make a nice fabric art piece. The last fabric art picture took me a year to complete, I don’t think this one will take quite that long.   We’ll see.

For Big Red fans

I found the shirt at a thrift shop and decided it would make a good Husker Spirit quilt. As you can see, I made this one with three colors.  I like the result.

The garden cart is finished

Had some problems with this one.  When I was thread painting the wheel, I didn’t have the fabric held tight enough.  The background fabric puckered terribly.  I cut away the background fabric around the lower half, and added a new background for the ground area.  I like it so much better than the grey.  I think that was the whole reason I wasn’t happy with it at first.  But now, after a year of hanging on my project board, it is now finished.

Now on to the next one.

Started and completed today.

This is a wall hanging approx. 12x18”   The bottle is painted onto the cloth with watercolor pencils.  The stem is also.  The flower is fabric.  I cut around the bottom of the bottle and sewed it onto the fabric below to look like it was sitting on a table.

Latest project Painted Daisy

This project was created at the request of the owner of quilt shop.  She had seen some of my fabric painted cars and wants to have a class showing how I do this.  I created this fairly easy project for the class which will be held in April.  It is about 12” square and didn’t take me very long to complete.
